Thoughts on Love Days

Love is an essential part of life but something that we take for granted. That is why special `love days` are so important; where we are reminded to tell those we love how much we appreciate them.
The most well known `love day` is St Valentine`s Day, where romantic love is celebrated, but there are plenty of others that celebrate other kinds of love. Father`s Day and Mother`s Day are the perfect time to show your parents that you love them and Grandparent`s Day is a new addition to the love day calendar. There is also a relatively new occasion known as `Global Love Day` during which every kind of love is celebrated together.
St Valentine`s Day, or Valentine`s Day as it is more commonly known, occurs annually each 14th February. Typically, people buy their partners Valentine`s cards and gifts. The most popular gift for the ladies on this occasion is Valentines Day flowers and florists in many locations around the world are filled to brim with beautiful blooms around this time in year in preparation. Traditionally, in Wales, carved wooden love spoons were given to your sweetheart.
There are conflicting opinions as to the origins of this event, which is named after the Christian martyr Valentine who died on the 14th February 269 A.D. He is said to have left a romantic note for the daughter of his jailor, which was signed "from your Valentine". Many modern day celebrators of this day enjoy spending time with their intimate companions, exchanging amorous verses and gifts, oblivious to the day`s tragically romantic origins.
Fathers and Mother`s Days are a great chance to demonstrate your appreciation and love for your parents, where gifts and cards are presented to appreciative recipients.
Global Love Day has been developed more recently and is celebrated on May 1st each year. On this day, unconditional love off all sorts is encouraged, from romantic to fraternal. It has become a way to encourage nations around the world to join together in peace. Whilst it is not so well known at the moment, its popularity is growing, as it is the only occasion during which all types of love are celebrated so that everyone can get involved.
`Love Days` are a great way of showing those we care about most how much we love them, which we can often forget to do for the rest of the year. So whomever you love and whatever form that love takes - romantic, fraternal, deep friendship - make sure they know exactly how important they are to you and hopefully they will do the same in return.
